Overlap explores memories combined with mental imagery or dreams in the form of analog collages. The emphasis is placed on process and the choice of materials was carefully planned out. Two types of textures are brought together: rice paper - soft yet rough - and stone paper - soft yet sturdy, velvety, absolutely no tooth. The rice paper is coloured using chalk pastels before being torn or cut and placed over the stone paper. There is a bit of separation between the two papers: the rice paper is to appear as sitting on top of the stone paper and not blended into it as it is the case with most collages. Metaphorically speaking, these papers resemble the nature of memories – delicate, yet strong. The collages are then mounted on wood for stability and durability. The entire process is an attempt of capturing moments which otherwise would flee.
